Sen. Orrin Hatch signals his intention to launch a major push on public pension reform -- an issue that happens to be a specialty of one of his most prominent GOP primary challengers, Dan Liljenquist.

Reports The Hill:

"He is trying to burnish his conservative credentials, no question about it,” said LaVarr Webb, a GOP strategist in Utah.

Dan Liljenquist, a former state senator and one of Hatch’s most prominent Republican opponents, and others say the timing of the incumbent’s pension overhaul efforts strikes them as more than a little coincidental.

Liljenquist led the charge to revamp Utah’s pension system, and told The Hill in an interview that Hatch’s interest in the issue “came out of the blue to us.”

More than a little coincidental indeed. How come Hatch doesn't reform his own fat pension?

And of course in his latest Big Government style, he undertakes pension reform in the states without talking to anyone from the state.

Many states (including Utah) adopted the needed reforms without waiting for Washington. But Orrin can't understand that pension reform is too big and too varied an issue to need or even tolerate a national solution.

He used to understand that, but that was a long time ago.

It's Time!
