It is often said, "Employees are our most valued asset." An important aspect of valuing that asset is to protect employees in an emergency situation. Even if you are not personally responsible for the safety function, you should consider helping out in this area. Not only can you provide current lists of employees, but you can provide information on employees with disabilities and special needs and lists of employees for whom English is a second language. You can also assist in tracking periodic safety training and ensure that all new employees receive emergency training. Unforseen emergencies that threaten employees need to be addressed before they happen. Providing input from a human resources prospective can help achieve a better emergency action plan and may even help prevent a tragic accident.
