(Utah Pulse) Smith’s Food and Drug stores announced this week that they have donated $6.6 million to charitable organizations in 2007. The donations went to more than 2,700 non-profit organizations in seven Western states.

The program, known as “Neighbor to Neighbor” gave out nearly $50,000 per store. The donations also came from Smith’s parent company, Kroger, as well as other in-store fundraising efforts.

One of the chief recipients of the largesse from Smith’s is Primary Children’s Medical Center. The donations also benefitted local food pantries, local schools, the American Cancer Society and the United Way.

Smith’s operates 132 stores in seven Western states. A link to the full report is available at www.smithscommunity.com.
