EY announced that Sam Malouf, CEO of bedding accessories maker Malouf, received the Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2017 Award in the distribution and manufacturing category in the Utah Region.

He was selected by an independent panel of judges, and the award was presented at a special gala event at The Grand America Hotel on Saturday, June 10.

The award recognizes entrepreneurs who are excelling in areas such as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities. Of the eight companies that earned awards, Malouf was the only organization located north of Salt Lake City.

“Where we work and the people we work with have everything to do with our success and this award,” said Sam Malouf. “We realize we’re not in a stereotypical distribution area by being in Cache Valley, but we gain a lot of smart and talented people here, and we love where we live.”

Malouf’s dedication to the surrounding community has driven the company’s culture and its motivation to give back, which contributed to the Entrepreneur Of The Year recognition. In addition to supporting and sponsoring employees who participate in community events like Ragnar, Cache Gran Fondo, and softball teams with Logan Recreation, the company launched the Malouf Foundation last year to support community members in difficult times. Sam Malouf said these initiatives not only promote balance, but they give back to a community that’s been good to the company.

“We make a primary need product, so we knew that we could help bring some immediate comfort and fulfill some basic needs for people in our community going through difficult situations,” he said. “The foundation is run by our employees, and it provides a great deal of meaning to the work they do. We’ve donated sheets and beds to The Family Place, we held a fund raiser for CAPSA, and we donate bedding items to help people as they escape from situations of abuse. We also provide a pillow for every child in the Utah foster care system, and they can take that pillow with them as they transition so they always have something comfortable and familiar.”

With success, Malouf realizes that business success translates to more giving through the foundation. The company’s goal is to expand its giving as the company grows, and it hopes participation in the Entrepreneur Of The Year program will bring new focus to its charitable and people-focused endeavors.
