After selling his analytics company Omniture to Adobe, Josh James went on to found Domo Technologies, a Utah unicorn now valued at about $2 billion. KSL.com has an interesting story about Domo, which is one of six "unicorn" companies in Utah. In the story, Josh emphasizes Utah's business-friendly environment, which is helping companies like his to flourish here.
Last week we celebrated the innovative spirit in Utah during the Governor's 10th annual Utah Economic Summit. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire summit, but was particularly impressed with the beginning keynote address by Pierre Lassonde, founder of the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute at the University of Utah. We were pleased to help sponsor the summit and congratulate everyone in the Governor's Office of Economic Development (GOED) for making it such a great success.
Speaking of GOED, after a decade of service, our dear friend Michael Sullivan is retiring from his post as communications director for GOED. Michael was a strong ally and important buffer when we first won the economic development contract with GOED and as both organizations worked to figure out their respective roles regarding economic development in Utah. Michael has continued to be a good friend and partner through the years, always taking a balanced and thoughtful approach to marketing and communication issues as our relationship with GOED evolved and became more refined. We extend a special thanks to Michael and wish him well in his retirement.
