Non-Profit Spotlight: Utah Partners for Health
Utah Partners for Health's mission is to provide access to healthcare for low-income and uninsured individuals with a medical need. Our healthcare model is unique because we work within for-profit healthcare clinics, and therefore do not pay for buildings, supplies, utilities, or medical support staff. This model allows UPFH to leverage our donations to over $5.10 in direct healthcare provided for every $1.00 donated to UPFH. Our partner clinics are open 7 days a week offering same day help.
We work within nine for-profit clinics with medical professionals who are willing to donate a substantial portion of their billing to our patients. Our new mobile clinic targets racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic populations who incur disparities in access to healthcare in Salt Lake County. Our new prenatal clinic provides access to prenatal care to low-income and under insured women to optimize health of mother and baby. Our purpose includes incorporating outcome measurements to link mission, vision, and values with the impact of services to improve the health system.
Our base program works within nine different clinics to provide access to healthcare to uninsured and low income residents of Magna, West Valley City and Kearns. We plan to provide access to approximately 4,500 patients in 2009. Utah Partners for Health covers acute, chronic, and mental health illnesses with an average cost to the patient of $25.90. This small co-pay allows others to receive care and does not create an entitlement program.
Our partner 31 ft. mobile medical trailer targets racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic populations who incur disparities in access to healthcare in Salt Lake County. This project is based on collaboration with community based organizations, non-profits, and state agencies to provide access to healthcare to the refugee and other underserved populations We plan to care for 650 patients in 2009 with this program, emphasizing well-checks to all ages, diabetes, hypertension, thyroidism, lipidemia, and asthma. We will also be capable to provide, developmental evaluation for children, breast, colon, and prostate cancer screening for adults, minor acute care, mental illness care, and smoking cessation. This project is not designed to duplicate services.

This program has provided access to prenatal care to 450 or more low-income and uninsured women to optimize health of mother and baby. Global care will include: 13 prenatal and postpartum visits, lab work, ultra sound, case management and patient education. Lab work includes prenatal panel, pap smear, 1-hour glucose, Group B Strep, complete blood count, GC/CT and HIV testing.
