The Utah Water and Wastewater Agency Response Network (UTWARN) has selected Central Utah Water Conservancy District as a distribution site in an effort to distribute 40,000 cloth facemasks to drinking water and wastewater operators.
Water workers in Utah and Wasatch counties can schedule an appointment to pick up masks starting:
Monday, May 18
9:00am – 12:00pm
Additional distribution times will be announced through June 5 or until the masks run out.
The masks were manufactured and donated by the Hanes Corporation through a joint effort of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the American Water Works Association (AWWA), the Rural Water Association of Utah (RWAU), and the UTWARN. All sizes and types of drinking water and wastewater systems are eligible to receive masks.
The UTWARN, which is administered by the RWAU, was set up to quickly respond to emergency events to safeguard drinking water and wastewater. As essential service providers, water system operators have been on-duty throughout the COVID-19 pandemic response maintaining uninterrupted water service to Utah communities. These additional masks will increase their ability to perform their work safely.
