Custom clothier Tailor Cooperative, which began operations in early 2016, has expanded its custom suit shop at 335 Pierpont Ave. in Salt Lake City to launch its in-house tailoring department, begin new product development, and facilitate increased demand at its flagship location.
This expansion brings new capital, over 3,000 sq. ft. of retail and office space for the company, and 5-7 new jobs to be added between 2019-2020.
A great opportunity surrounds the power of customization, and Tailor Cooperative has increased their storefront location by 40% to support and grow their bespoke, made-to-measure approach: an old world manufacturing process for crafting tailored clothing. Co-founder Chase Murdock says, “It’s a quality suit made to measure just for each client – styled, fit, and finished in downtown Salt Lake City.”
Tailor Cooperative aims to bring back a high-end, almost lost art to the City. Their focus is on craftsmanship and hiring skilled tailors who are dedicated to a perfect fit for men’s and women’s suits. With the new expansion, clients now have front door access to a showroom that displays over 5,000 fabrics from Italy, England, custom clothing, handmade shoes, and curated accessories.
The expansion is funded in part by a loan from Salt Lake City’s Economic Development Loan Fund (EDLF), which aligns with the Redevelopment Agency’s efforts to rehabilitate existing downtown buildings in the Central Business District. “We fell in love with this location on Pierpont Ave. It’s charming and fits our brand so well,” says co-founder Adam Malmborg. “Downtown has so many benefits – being close to the gallery stroll, restaurants, bars, and other events is right where our clients enjoy spending a lot of time.”
“We are thrilled that Tailor Cooperative has chosen to expand in Salt Lake City,” says Lara Fritts, Salt Lake City’s economic development director. “Since our department was created two years ago, our focus has been on supporting local businesses, keeping our neighborhoods vibrant, and providing flexible funding options. Tailor Cooperative’s expansion in the capital city is a perfect example of the successes we strive for in the work we do.”
Tailor Cooperative’s new expanded storefront opened at the end of 2018.
