Silicon Slopes has partnered with BrainStorm, Inc. to launch Silicon Slopes Serves.
Silicon Slopes is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that empowers Utah's startup and tech community to learn, connect and serve. The Silicon Slopes Serves initiative is another step on Silicon Slopes' path to ramp up its mission to serve.
Silicon Slopes Serves' first endeavor, in partnership with JustServe, brought the community together with the goal of providing 1 million meals to hungry children through the nonprofit organization Feeding Children Everywhere. The Committee raised donations leading up to the Silicon Slopes Tech Summit and recruited over 4,000 volunteers to prepare the meals during the event on Thursday and Friday.
The project harnessed the efforts of Silicon Slopes companies including BambooHR, Lucidchart, Collective Medical Technologies, SolutionReach, Podium and Ancestry. "It's exciting to see some of Silicon Slopes' biggest players work together toward such a worthwhile goal," said Karen Peterson, BrainStorm CMO and Chair of the Silicon Slopes Serves Committee. "This is a group of passionate leaders, and the potential impact that this community has is enormous."
Silicon Slopes Serves will be an ongoing partnership between Silicon Slopes and BrainStorm to rally Utah's startup and tech community to improve the lives of everyone in the state and beyond. BrainStorm is nationally recognized for its community service and charitable giving efforts and has garnered praise from Utah Governor Gary Herbert in his 2018 State of the State address for their work with rural schools. The company has been recognized by Fortune's 50 Best Workplaces for Giving Back.
"I've always been impressed with BrainStorm's commitment to service," said Clint Betts, Executive Director of Silicon Slopes. "BrainStorm does more than talk about what needs to be done or throw money at a problem—their employees get involved and in the thick of things. Having BrainStorm head up this initiative was an easy call."
"Serving and empowering our community is one of BrainStorm's core values," said Peterson. "Teaming up with Silicon Slopes will help us take a hands-on approach to service, harness our collective power and expand our impact across Utah."
